Discussion - Goldman Sachs
On October 16th, 2024, the Inside Out Clothing Project had the privilege of partnering with Goldman Sachs to host an impactful event focused on the intersection of business, sports, and philanthropy. The evening brought together influential leaders from various sectors to explore how strategic philanthropy and cross-sector collaboration can drive meaningful transformation in underserved communities.
The event, titled Empowering the Future: The Impact of Black Business and Sports Leaders Investing in Community Success, showcased how Black leaders from both business and sports are harnessing their platforms to empower others and create opportunities for the next generation. Through inspiring discussions, the panel highlighted the transformative power of intentional giving and the critical role that philanthropy plays in advancing social mobility.
Key Highlights from the Event
The evening’s panel featured dynamic insights from two incredible leaders: Rob Pierre, Co-Founder of Jellyfish and Director of the Inside Out Clothing Project, and Osi Umenyiora, a two-time Super Bowl champion and NFL Ambassador. Together, they discussed the role of philanthropy in addressing systemic barriers and how sports and business leaders are uniquely positioned to drive change in their communities.
Rob Pierre shared insights into the Inside Out Clothing Project, which empowers young, first-time ex-offenders through sustainable fashion. By providing participants with the skills they need to thrive in the fashion industry, the project not only fosters social mobility but also contributes to the overall transformation of society by breaking the cycle of reoffending and poverty.
Osi Umenyiora highlighted how sports can be a powerful vehicle for philanthropy. He shared his own journey of using his platform to support initiatives that uplift marginalised communities, reinforcing the theme that giving back doesn’t stop when the game ends.
The panel also explored the value of collaboration between business and sports leaders, emphasising that cross-sector partnerships are essential in creating lasting change. By working together, these sectors can amplify their social impact efforts and unlock new opportunities for communities in need.
